Financial Aid & Scholarship

• UChicago Students

  • The Office of College Aid offers partial scholarship to current UChicago undergraduates via its Summer Scholarship program. These scholarships help defray the cost of attending Summer Session programs for UChicago students who receive aid during the academic year.

  • Summer Scholarships may be applied to all undergraduate programs administered by the Summer Session office: Summer Quarter, September Term, and Summer Language Institute.

  • Current undergraduate students in the College may also be eligible to apply for Summer Pell Grants or Stafford loans for assistance. Contact the office of College Aid.

• Visiting Students

  Visiting Undergraduate and Graduate Students may apply for aid awarded through their home institution. Students should check with their school's financial aid office to see if this is available. The UChicago Office of Financial Aid cannot process awards for non-degree students. UChicago offers a limited amount of aid to Visiting Students, and for a limited number of programs listed in the dropdown menu below.

• Summer Language Institute (SLI)

  • SLI has a limited amount of financial aid to help defray the cost of attendance for visiting students who demonstrate financial need. To be considered for these need-based aid, application materials and financial aid form must be submitted in your application. Due to our limited aid, we offer partial aid awards to a limited number of students.

  • The The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program is administered by the federal government for American graduate students who are concentrating in a modern foreign language and a program that includes international or area studies. Students from other universities may apply FLAS funds awarded at their home institution to eligible Summer Language Institute courses. Their FLAS award will be applied to their account and will receive additional scholarship aid from SLI to cover the difference between SLI tuition costs and their FLAS award.   • UChicago Humanities and Social Science MA students who are enrolled in graduate programs in the 2025-2026 or 2026-2027 academic year have a discounted rate of $4,650 for a 300 Unit Intensive Course. Divinity School MA students should review the information below for PhD students.

  • UChicago PhD students' tuitions are paid for by their home division if they are enrolled in Humanities, Social Sciences, or Divinity. All other PhD students need to contact summersession@uchicago.edu.

• Summer Session Tuition Benefit

  Dependent children of full-time, benefits-eligible University of Chicago faculty, academic appointees, and staff admitted to Summer Session programs offered by the College receive a 25% tuition discount for up to two courses. For more details, visit the Summer Session Tuition Benefit page.

• Merit Based Mercer Scholarship for Building the New Venture

  • The Mercer Scholarship provides financial support of up to $4,480 to students enrolled in the Building the New Venture Summer Business course (BUSN 20330 10). It was established to enhance the range of students participating in the Summer Business Scholars Program.

    • Current UChicago Students: Self-register for the course through my.uchicago and submit your Scholarship Application

    • Visiting Undergraduate Students: Submit a completed application to Summer Session, selecting BUSN 20330 10 as your first course choice, and submit your Scholarship Application.

  • Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. 

  • For some students, receiving the Mercer scholarship might exclude the possibility of them receiving other scholarships or financial aid for the course. To confirm your eligibility, please contact your Financial Aid officer. The scholarship can be applied to tuition only.
