Financial Aid & Scholarship

• UChicago Students

  Limited financial aid is offered to current UChicago undergraduates through the Office of College Aid via the Summer Scholarship program. These partial scholarships help defray the cost of attending Summer Session programs for current UChicago students who receive aid during the academic year.

  Summer Scholarships may be applied to all undergraduate programs administered by the Summer Session office: September Term, Summer Language Institute, and Summer Quarter. Information and links to Summer Scholarships are available here.

  Current undergraduate students in the College may also be eligible to apply for Summer Pell Grants or Stafford loans for assistance. Contact the office of College Aid.

• Visiting Students

  Visiting Undergraduate and Graduate Students may apply for aid awarded through their home institution – check with your school's financial aid office to see if this is available. The UChicago Office of Financial Aid cannot process awards for non-degree students.

• Summer Language Institute

  • The Summer Language Institute has a limited amount of financial aid to help defray the cost of attendance for some visiting students who demonstrate financial need. To be considered for these need-based financial aid awards, all application materials and financial aid form must be completed in your application status page. We will review all aid applications received by the extended application deadline of Tuesday, April 15, 2025. Please note that we anticipate only being able to make aid offers to a portion of financial aid applicants.

  • The Foreign Language and Area Studies (FLAS) Fellowship program is administered by the federal government for American graduate students who are concentrating in a modern foreign language and a program that includes international or area studies. Students from other universities may apply FLAS funds awarded at their home institution to eligible Summer Language Institute courses, and may receive additional scholarship aid from SLI to cover the difference between SLI tuition costs and your FLAS award.   • UChicago MA students who are enrolled in graduate programs in the 2024-2025 or 2025-2026 academic year have a discounted rate of $4,113 for a 300 Unit Intensive Course

  • UChicago PhD students' tuitions are paid for by their home division if they are enrolled in Humanities, Social Sciences, or Divinity. All other PhD students need to contact summersession@uchicago.edu.

• Summer Session Tuition Benefit

  Dependent children of full-time, benefits-eligible University of Chicago faculty, academic appointees, and staff admitted to Summer Session programs offered by the College receive a 25% tuition discount for up to two courses. For more details, visit the Summer Session Tuition Benefit page.

• Merit Based Scholarships

  • Thanks to a generous donor, two Public Thinking classes (PARR 11700 91 and PARR 11700 92) are offered jointly by The Point Magazine and the Parrhesia Program for Public Discourse. All students must provide additional application materials when they apply. Deadline to apply is March 5, 2025.

  • The Mercer Scholarship provides financial support of up to $4,790 to students enrolled in the Building the New Venture Summer Business course (BUSN 20330 91). It was established to enhance the range of students participating in the Summer Business Scholars Program.

    • Current UChicago Students: Self-register for the course through my.uchicago and submit your Scholarship Application

    • Visiting Undergraduate Students: Submit a completed application to Summer Session, selecting BUSN 20330 91 as your first course choice, and submit your Scholarship Application.

    Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis. 
    For some students, receiving the Mercer scholarship might exclude the possibility of them receiving other scholarships or financial aid for the course. To confirm your eligibility, please contact your Financial Aid officer. The scholarship can be applied to tuition only.
