Summer Language Institute

Learn an entire year of a language online this summer!

• Modern language courses develop student proficiency across all four language skills—speaking, listening, reading, and writing.

• Ancient language courses build students' reading abilities and their familiarity with ancient texts and culture.

• Courses are six, seven, or eight weeks long, and meet for 90-150 contact hours. Read each course listing carefully.

• Our intensive language courses confer 300 units of credit and are equivalent to three quarter-long (9 week) courses.

Eligibility

Open to current UChicago students, visiting undergraduate, graduate and advanced pre-college students.

Limited funding for visiting and graduate students is available. Please see the Cost and Aid page for details.

Summer Language Institute courses are taught online. There is no hybrid or in-person option for these courses.
