Visiting Students

UChicago does not sponsor student visas in the Summer. Students currently enrolled in a college or university in the United States may apply for in-person or remote classes. Students who are not enrolled in a US institution are welcome to take online classes.

Students enrolled in at least one in-person Summer or September course are eligible to apply for housing for the duration of their course. Please note: the deadline to apply for housing is different than the deadline to apply for a class.

Visiting Undergraduate and Graduate Students are encouraged to apply for aid at their home institution. UChicago offers a limited amount of aid to Visiting Students, and for a limited number of programs. Please visit the Costs and Financial Aid page for details.

Each course is the equivalent of a full quarter-long course and meets for at least 27 contact hours.

All programs and courses offered in Summer Session are taught in English. Students applying to be a part of any Summer Session course or program are expected to demonstrate mastery of the English language through your application. UChicago does not offer an ESL program or ESL support for Summer Session students.

Applicants who 1) are not native speakers of English and 2) do not attend university in a country where English is the official or standard language of instruction (such as the U.S., Canada, U.K., Australia, New Zealand, and South Africa) should submit scores from any English proficiency examination you believe represents your English language ability (e.g., TOEFL, IELTS, Duolingo).

Students who submit English proficiency scores may share either official or unofficial score reports.
