Please become familiar with the range of policies to follow and the resources available to you as incoming students:
Throughout the program, you'll be invited to activities and events that will begin your orientation to campus resources, connect you with peers, and help you explore the city of Chicago.
In your House community, the residential staff will be available for advice and mentoring. They will plan social events to help build community among the cohort. Our traditional late-night “Study Breaks” continue the decades long tradition of sharing comfort food among students immersed in their studies.
Summer programming also includes events in residence to connect you with various student services offices (Study Abroad, Research and Fellowships, Dean’s Office, etc.)
The city of Chicago offers innumerable choices for exploration and socializing, and our staff lead trips to museums, shopping, stage shows, sporting events and other options.
Whether you share your interests with the residential staff and create a custom trip or join us on a pre-planned event as you explore the Windy City, outside the classroom events will immerse you in your new community.

Inquiry, Conversation, Argument (ICA) is an intensive writing course designed to develop the skills and habits of mind needed to contribute to ongoing intellectual conversations. Each section of ICA is motivated by a distinctive central question, explored from a range of interdisciplinary perspectives. These courses are taught in-person, from 1 to 3 pm, August 4-September 12, 2025 (no class September 1). All students enrolled in Humanities Core for transfer student courses must also enroll in one of these three ICA sections, unless the College Dean of Students Office has confirmed that they have received transfer credit for a prior writing course taken at another institution.
