The Summer Institute in Social Research Methods (SISRM) offers Summer courses and Summer Research Assistantships.
2026 SISRM courses
Visiting Students, UChicago Masters and UChicago PhD students are eligible to enroll in the courses listed below and to participate in the program's co-curricular programming and guest speaker series. However, they are not eligible to apply for the Research Assistantships.

Participant Observation and Interviews: Introduction to Ethnographic Methods
Research Assistantships
UChicago, Chicago State, City Colleges of Chicago, and Insper undergraduates, as well as Laboratory Schools juniors and seniors, have the opportunity apply to a Summer Research Assistantship. Paired with a SISRM course, the RA will provide accelerated training in theoretically-grounded research methodologies commonly used in social scientific analysis. SISRM Research Assistantships are appropriate for students interested in using social scientific research methods in academic and non-academic applications.
